The January 4 twin bombings which struck the city of Kerman during a ceremony in honour of slaim Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani brutally highlighted the persistent and expanding threat posed to the country by the Islamic State. The attack was claimed under the name of “Islamic State – Iran”, hence attributing the attack to a local cell. However, there are indicators and past connections which highlight the involvement of Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).
